The advent of web is the gateway to obtain free content. Many writers feel that information that is basic in nature need not be purchased at a premium but should be given away as free. This is a good marketing ploy as well. Throwing open bits of useful information will market the deep and well researched information that writers have to offer.
I have compiled a set of top ten free ITIL resources on Train Signal Training. My search started with google, but the search yielded very few hits that I could use. The reason as I see it is the lack of buying in from those practicing ITIL to share their wisdom on the net. I have contact with hundreds of ITIL professionals, but a handful do anything useful with it outside their jobs. They keep it locked in their office premises before they head home. This hinders the growth, and the unleashing of hidden potentials in a good majority of professionals.
I strongly believe that each one of us have something useful to share, be it ITIL, cooking or even something trivial such as a car wash. Sharing not only makes you charitable but makes you better at what you share. Do you know that learning through teaching is a research topic?
