Software Asset Management (SAM) in India is not carried out in the same vigor as it is done in the Western world. Many organizations do not take software compliance seriously, or rather they are ignorant to the fact that purchasing and installing licenses come with a set of compliance guidelines.
A friend who is working with me on software asset management pointed me to the following study by KPMG on the maturity levels in India in the field of SAM. It is interesting to note that 86 percent of the companies audited do not have policies, processes and procedures in place to manage their software licenses. This is a cause of concern and at the same time, an opportunity to tap into. What will it be?
