Ever wondered what happens to your checked-in luggage when you hand it over to the ground staff at the airport?
I travel quite a lot, and sometimes my bags come out unscathed and most of the times, I can find little tears and burrs which makes me want to start using a private jet charter.
I knew that the entire process would be automated owing to the sheer numbers and some insight into a baggage handling project which my colleague undertook a few years back. And, the statistics point towards more luggages reaching the owners at the destination over the ones that get misplaced.
Somebody has placed a camera atop a checked-in luggage and the video shows the journey of one such suitcase at the Schipol Airport in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
I wish the video had continued the journey up until it is deposited in the cargo area on the plane. I have been also told that the bags are literally thrown around for the sake of efficiency and perhaps the boredom that comes with the bag handler’s job.
